Man. This might be the craziest nigga in the world and def the most hated underground legend of all time but I don’t even care bout nun of that. This man changed everything when blackland radio 66.6 came out, he brought the trill shit back to forefront of music, he brought the phonk. There would be no purple swag without this nigga. This album came out right beside wolf by Tyler. Having these two albums to bounce back and fourth shaped my own music and my own ears. The dark and the light the contrast the yin and yang was perfect. The porn samples, the crazy and dark melodies hard hitting 808s and freaky hi hats really had my ears glued to my headphones every time I went to go skate or hang I’d always be playing this.
Peak r&b soul music right here. Waking up to the smell of incense in the air and this playing with my mom down stairs cleaning and me going back upstairs after eating cereal and turning on my ps2 and putting in gta burn as I turn the pages in my memory book. I wish I could’ve produced every single track on here and next lifetime makes me think of a very special girl.
Shyne Coldchain Vol 1 by Vince Staples. Now this right here changed my life/outlook on life. I was super late to this tape, I always knew Vince but never checked for his shit till I heard a song he tweeted and then I had to go through the discography. This tape came out when every release from an odd future member or an affiliate post Bastard was so inspired by Tyler. If you go listen to earl and even on a certain song on here (looking at you Taxi. Amazing song tho) the shock value raps were at an all time high. But after the first 3 songs into this tape I realized this project was nothing like bastard or earl. So many lines about self awareness, understanding being black, not looking up and feeding into the white man’s plan, Malcolm X lines, his gang lifestyle etc. This shit was that real shit, the production reminisce of g funk era west coast raps like doggy style mixed with dark underground vibes. The nigga Vince was going crazy bar for bar on every track. It’s crazy cause Vince said he wasn’t even taking music seriously till after a couple project releases who would’ve thought that he would be the one to age better than his peers at This point.
The Barter 6. Few words needed for this one. The scene is 2015 10th grade South Georgia, so many blunts were smoked, let’s not forget this was right after rich gang the tour (top 5 mixtapes ever). Blonde dreads thug, Stunna verses, amazing beats, punchlines that fly over your head. You had to be in Georgia breathing that air and being around the culture to understand this one.
THA City. Robb’s best work hands down, it might’ve been cause Actavis wasn’t discontinued at the time he was recording and released this but man this body of work was so creative and distinct it’s still swept under the rug to this day but it’s inspired so many artists that are popping today. The funny thing about this album is even tho it’s one of my favorite projects of all time, I hated this shit when it first dropped, I remember listening and liking a couple songs but thinking over all this shit was a flop. Then a couple more listens later I got it. The production on this alone is legendary with the bulk of it being by spaceghostpurrp and Nuri also some uncredited production additions on certain tracks by Robb himself, the phonk samples, the anime samples, the Sade samples, the og production fused in with the samples just really paint this vivid picture of a dark but vibrant (lol) south Florida atmosphere. Not only was the production ahead, the artistry shined hard on this, I mean the nigga kept the girl who broke his heart on a song on the album while also dropping hella lines about her, drake level shit. I also gotta put into context this came out at the height of the raider klan ASAP beef and even tho Robb was just An affiliate of the klan this nigga was the only nigga actually giving asap smoke with many lines on this shit. The anime bars on here still won’t ever be topped, idc bout no x wulf no new SoundCloud niggas, nun of that cause Robb was the first one giving niggas actually intricate anime bars no punch a nigga like goku or cliche I’m charging up like goku or whatever the fuck. To wrap it up tho this is an underground legend tape 10/10.
